In 1753, Johnsonburg, became the first county seat of then newly formed Sussex County and county jail which was named Logg Gaol. Settled by Loyalist and surveyor Samuel Green in 1740, who built a grist mill and lived peacefully with the native Lenape tribe. Logg Gaol became a focal point of settlements in area, having tavern, forge, wheel wright and mission house.
There will be self-guided walking tour and Historical society will have a display of artifacts and items of historical interest in front of Town Hall, 210 Main Street. Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm.
