Lock 7 West in New Village was also known as ‘Fresh Bread Lock’ because the lock tender sold bakery goods to the boatmen who passed through. At Bread Lock Park, the remains of the lock and the tender’s house can be viewed. Nearby is the only full-sized replica Morris Canal boat that exists on the Morris Canal Greenway. Climb aboard and explore the deck and cabin while interpreters explain what life was like for a canal boat captain and his family. Also check out the Storybook Trail along the former canal towpath, where visitors can read ‘A Full Hand’, a delightful story, written by Thomas F. Yezerski, about a young mule driver working with his father on a Morris Canal boat.
Trail Weekend: open Sunday, Nov. 3, 10am – 4pm.
